Protect Birth Access for All Families in East Texas
Help Us Bridge the Gap in Maternity Care
In rural East Texas, far too many families live in what the CDC calls a “maternity care desert”—counties where there are no obstetric providers or hospital-based birth services within safe reach. These care gaps put mothers and babies at higher risk of preventable complications and even death.
Texas ranks among the worst in the nation for maternal mortality, and the crisis is even more severe in low-income and underserved communities. Families are forced to drive hours for prenatal care—or go without it entirely. This is where Rose City Wellness steps in.
The Challenge We Face
More families in East Texas are turning to Medicaid for maternity care than ever before. While we are committed to caring for every family who walks through our doors, Medicaid reimbursements cover less than half the actual cost of safe, quality maternity care.
This growing gap is threatening our ability to:
- Keep our doors open to all families, regardless of ability to pay.
- Retain skilled staff who provide exceptional, compassionate care.
- Cover essential expenses like medical supplies, rent, and utilities.
- Without additional support, we face the heartbreaking possibility of reducing staff and turning away families who need us most.

Why Your Gift Matters
It Takes $2,500 to Cover Care for One Low-Income Client
We never turn families away due to financial hardship. But this level of commitment comes at a cost: each client’s full care—including prenatal visits, labs, 24/7 support, birth, postpartum visits, and lactation care—requires $2,500 in donor support to cover what Medicaid and reduced-fee services do not.
Your donation helps us:
- Keep care free or affordable for those who need it most
- Provide safe, out-of-hospital births close to home
- Reduce preventable complications and disparities
Midwifery Care Saves Lives
- Midwives are trained professionals who provide comprehensive, evidence-based prenatal, birth, and postpartum care. Studies show that midwifery care:
- Reduces preterm birth by 24%
- Cuts C-section rates in half
- Improves breastfeeding success
- Increases satisfaction and trust
- Reduces racial and economic disparities in birth outcomes
At Rose City Wellness, our nonprofit team of licensed midwives and lactation consultants provides accessible care for families who would otherwise fall through the cracks.
